Description
HPLC-NMR demonstrates considerable potential as a separation-characterization method that will rival other on-line HPLC detectors should expected improvements in sensitivity, through changes in probe design, permit routine submicrogram level analytical-scale analyses. Solvent suppression methods have been shown to permit the use of protonated solvents as cost-efficient alternatives to deuterated solvents for reversed-phase separations. The technique can easily be extended to 19F and 31P NMR which may serve as more selective detectors. Specific application to separations which now require derivatization for detection, chemically unstable compounds, and assays that require rapid and complete on-line characterization, will provide the most outstanding evidence of the utility of the HPLC-NMR technique. 17 refs.; 6 figs.; 1 table
