Description

The effect of the interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) azimuthal component on the frequency of appearance of magnetic disturbances is discussed. The analysis is based on IMF and AU, AL-indices hourly average value for 1966-1979. At least three types of effect of IMF azimuthal component on the frequency of appearance of magnetic disturbances are shown to exist. They are the effect conditioned by the Russee-McFerron mechanism and revealing in all the types of disturbances in equinox periods; the effect of IMF modulus By most noticeable in the frequency of appearance of convection disturbances with the maximum in the summer period; and the effect of negative IMF component, By < 0, evidently existing throughout the whole year
