Magnet coil desgin with stabilized superconductors

A magnet coil configuration of stabilized superconductors is described, consisting of several nonisolated superconducting strands and normal conducting material for stabilization. Between the superconductors of neighbouring windings at least one isolation element is included. The packing factors of common coil arrangements, however, are relatively small, as the ratio of the cross-sections of the superconducting material to the material used for isolation and stabilization is quite small. In the invention described here the isolation element contains at least part of the stabilization material for the neighbouring superconductor. In particular the magnet coil can contain superconducting materials, which have to be prepared by an in-situ tempering process in the coil. (orig.)
