The development of maintenance training for nuclear power station engineers

Nuclear maintenance is identified as a strategy based on rules, people and plant, demonstrating how the diversity of plant has restricted off site training. The training and retraining of personnel in maintenance and engineering disciplines is addressed by reviewing the evolution of training over the past decade and applying a 'Systems Approach'. This technique has been incorporated into the activities of a Maintenance Training Working Group which was established to examine the interrelationship between on-site and off site training to promote its integration and further prepare a package of training to cover on-site training common to all nuclear power station sites. Finally, consideration of future training requirements is commented upon and suggests how this may be approached. (author)
