Contribution to the study of compacting of UO2 powders

Description

The main parameters involved in the pressing of UO2 powders, with the objective of producing high quality pellets in pilot plant production line, are established. Three different UO2 powders were studied. The methods used and the results obtained, are described. A compressibility indicative number is proposed, aiming a quantitative approach to the UO2 powder quality level for automatic pressing process. The values of the compressibility number agree the results obtained on the absorbed energy tests done under pressing in a Instron machine

Abstract (Portuguese)

Os parametros que envolvem o processo de compactacao de pos UO2, objetivando obtencao de pastilhas em escala piloto com alto nivel de qualidade, sao estabelecidos. Foram selecionados tres tipos de pos com caracteristicas marcadamente diferentes. Alem da determinacao dos fatores relevantes que envolvem o processo, foi proposto um indice de compactabilidade com vistas a quantificacao da qualidade do po para a compactacao automatica. Esse indice apresentou coerencia com os resultados obtidos nas experiencias em que procurou-se levantar dados de energia absorvida pelo compactado durante o processo
