Description

An outline is given of the possible applications of simulation techniques to breeders' problems. Simulation models can be of use in assessing the value of partial resistance and of population resistance of a particular host-pathogen combination in a specified environment. Breeding for partial resistance is seen as a constituent of plant disease management, to be supplemented by chemical disease control on the basis of long-term predictions of epidemic development.
