The effect of different rearing diet media on the irradiated eggs and larvae of flour beetle Tribolium confusum (J. DU VAL)

Description
Sterility, mortality and other effects of gamma radiation on 16-18 day-old larvae of Tribolium confusum were investigated. Gamma radiation of 5-40 Gy at 6 dose levels for 0-2 day-old eggs and of 10-80 Gy at 8 dose levels were applied. All experiments were carried out in incubators maintained at 27±0.5oC and 70±5% relative humidity. For each stage reared on different media (wheat, maize and barley flour), LD50 and LD99.9 values were determined. Results indicated that eggs were more susceptible to gamma radiation than larvae.
