Neutron activation analysis of reactor-irradiated ashed oils

Description

A procedure for neutron activation analysis of ashed oils with the use of a centralized irradiation station is described. It is established that for carrying out mass analyses it is expedient to use a semiconductor detector with a sensitive volume of not less than 20 cm3 and a 60Co resolution of not worse than 2-5 keV, in conjunction with an 800-1000-channel amplitude analyzer. The time of sample measurement of ashed oil, all other things being constant, depends on the permissible analysis error. The adopted time of reactor irradiation with a thermal neutron flux of 1.2x1013 n/cm2 was 20 hrs. The results of numerous measurements of irradiated samples show satisfactory stability of the neutron fluxes of the reactor with respect to their power and energy spectrum. The presented tabulated data of analysis of ashed oils indicate the possibility of quantitative determination of a number of elements
