Strong dispersive nonlinearity in the excitonic region of wide-gap II-VI compounds at room temperature

Description
The intensity-dependent change of the refraction index of CdS at room temperature is deduced from degenerate four wave mixing experiments. For an application of the very strong dispersive nonlinearity optical switching, and bistability are demonstrated using the 514 nm output of an Ar+-laser. (author)
