Oscillator strengths of absorption bands of Sm3+, Tb3+, Dy3+, Ho3+ and Tu3+ ions in GaCl3 - SOCl2

Systems containing rare-earth chlorides in GaCl3-SOCl2 aprotic inorganic solvent are presented. The values of oscillator strengths of absorption bands of rare earth ions in the 5000-24000 cm-1 range are determined. The τλ parameters in the Judd-Ofelt equations of the theory of forced electric dipole transitions are estimated. It is shown that the τ4 and τ6 parameters are monotonously decrease in the rare earth series, the τ2 parameter changes randomly. The Jadd parameter values and the character of their dependence in the rare earth series agree with the regularities established in the studies of other authors
