The galactic abundance of deuterium - A test for cosmological models
Description
The change in the deuterium abundance during galactic evolution is considered. It is shown that the deuterium abundance observed in the present-day interstellar medium must correspond to the cosmological abundance. This conclusion does not depend on an assumption concerning the rate of accretion of intergalactic gas by the Galaxy. The change in the amount of deuterium by hypothetical pre-galactic supermassive objects is small. The importance of deuterium observations in the radio line D (wavelength 91.6 cm) in absorption is noted
