The radioecological calculation model ECOSYS - basic principles and applications
Description
An assessment of the radiological consequences of radionuclides released to the environment requires calculating models which describe the behavior of the radioactive substances in the environment. Depending on the purpose of application, simple or more complex models can be used for caluclations. In the case of accidental releases, i.e. short-term releases, a realisitic description of the processes is only possible with the aid of dynamic calculating modles which consider the function of time. ECOSYS is a model taking into account the time factor. It was developed by the Institute for Radiation Protection of the GSF. The contribution explains the essential principles of the model and some applications. (orig./DG)

Die Abschaetzung der radiologischen Folgen von Radionuklid-Freisetzungen erfordert den Einsatz von Rechenmodellen, welche das Verhalten der radioaktiven Substanzen in der Umwelt beschreiben. Je nach Anwendungszweck koennen dafuer einfachere oder komplexere Modelle angewandt werden. Im Falle unfallbedingter, d.h. kurzzeitiger Freisetzungen ist eine realistische Beschreibung der ablaufenden Prozesse nur mit Hilfe dynamischer Rechenmodelle, welche die Zeitabhaenigkeiten beruecksichtigen, moeglich. Ein solches Rechenmodell stellt ECOSYS dar, welches am Institut fuer Strahlenschutz der GSF entwickelt wurde.
