Experimental Measurements of some of the Properties of Irradiated and Unirradiated Elastomers. Part II: The Measurement of Irradiation Effects on the Mechanical Properties of some Elastomers. Dragon Project Report

Description

O-rings of various elastomeric compositions have been γ-irradiated by reactor waste at AERE Harwell with different radiation doses. The changes in hardness, tensile strength and elongation have been measured in order to assess, for each material, the maximum radiation dose it can accept and still be usable. The results are not very accurate due to the fact that the test specimen did not have the right geometry but, nevertheless they are still very useful.
