60Co standard source production for calibration of nuclear detectors
Description
Neutron irradiation of CuO in nuclear reactors could result in Cu, Ni and Co radioisotopes. Radiochemical separation of these products could result in a pure radioactive source. In the present work, CuO powder was irradiated inside the 5 MW Tehran Research Reactor. After a cooling time, the irradiated powder dissolved using 0.5 M H2SO4 acid. Then sodium thiocyanate was used to participate copper. Then 60Co was collected from the effluent and its volume was decreased to a desired value by heating of the liquid sample-involving glass
