Description

Microscopic calculations of processes on few nucleon systems at intermediate energies have shown that the inclusion of explicit Δ degrees of freedom in the Hilbert space is essential. The role of the Δ can best be explored by exciting it by either photon or pion absorption and studying various decay modes. We have had a program of studied at TRIUMF using the polarized proton beam to study the two body decay channels via the inverse process of proton capture, a process which is much more efficient than trying to measure the polarization of the nucleons. In both the pion and photoproduction large momentum transfers are involved, up to about 800 MeV/c at backward angles. (orig./WL)
