Multidisciplinary treatment of advanced urothelial carcinoma, 2
- 1. Kurume Univ., Fukuoka (Japan). School of Medicine
Description
Multidisciplinary treatment consisting primarily of intraarterial injection of CDDP and irradiation was performed in 6 patients with inoperable cancer including 3 with a recurrent lesion. Four patients had advanced bladder carcinoma, and 2 had advanced ureteral carcinoma originating in the area adjacent to the bladder. Marked effects were observed following the combined approach of CDDP administration and irradiation. Partial response was observed in 3 patients treated by CDDP injection via the internal iliac artery and 1 patient treated by intra-venous injection of CAP. The effect of CDDP injection via the aorta plus irradiation was NC, but a patient survived 30 months, indicating that they had prolongation of the survived. Local effects of the combination of intra-arterial injection of CDDP and irradiation were great. However, distal metastases suggested the necessity of including systemic administration in the treatment protocol. Reduction surgery plus CDDP intra-arterial injection plus irradiation seem to be useful for treating inoperable advanced urothelial carcinoma. (author)
