keV neutron capture cross section of 170Yb

Description
The neutron capture cross section of 170Yb has been measured relative to gold in the neutron energy range 10-70 keV. The 30 keV average cross section is 790+-60mb. The astrophysical significance of this result is discussed with respect to the 176Lu-176Hf cosmochronometer
