Degradation of polymer waterproofing by alpha particles and soil bacteria
- 1. Faculty of Civil Engineering, Czech Technical University, Prague (Czech Republic)
- 2. National Radiation Protection Institute, Prague (Czech Republic)
Description
This was a preparatory study aimed at addressing two issues: (i) Ageing and degradation of normal types of polymeric waterproofing materials during long-time exposure to radon and soil bacteria and (ii) Temperature dependence (0 deg C to 40 deg C) of the radon diffusion coefficient for common non-degraded insulating materials. Shore D hardness was measured for unexposed and exposed high-density and low-density polyethylene. Module of elasticity, elongation, and tensile strength were also measured. (orig)
