Description

The results of Larsson, Dahlborg and Holmryd, who have measured the frequencies of about 300 normal modes of aluminum in the 001 symmetry plane, have been analysed on the basis of the Born-von Karman theory of lattice vibrations. The calculation shows that at least seventh neighbour forces are necessary in order to fit the data. Each time the model is extended to take account of forces due to the next set of neighbours, the values of the previously determined force constants change appreciably. The values finally obtained are therefore of doubtful significance. (author)

Abstract (French)

Les resultats obtenus par Larsson, Dahiborg et Holmryd qui ont mesure les frequences d'environ 300 modes normaux de l'aluminium dans le plan de symetrie [001], ont ete analyses en partant de la theorie de Born-von Karman sur les vibrations de reseaux. Les calculs montrent que, pour expliquer ces donnees, il faut tenir compte pour le moins des forces exercees par le septieme atome voisin. Or, chaque fois que l'on etend le modele pour prendre en consideration les forces exercees par la serie suivante d'atomes voisins, les valeurs des constantes relatives a la force determinee auparayant sont modifiees de facon appreciable. Il s'ensuit que les valeurs finalement obtenues sont d'une utilite douteuse. (author)

Abstract (Spanish)

El autor analiza segun a teoria de Born-von Karman relativa a las vibraciones reticulares, los valores medidos por Larssot , Dahlborg y Holmryd de las frecuencias de unos 300 modos normales del aluminio en el plano de simetria 001. Los calculos demuestran que para ajustar los datos es preciso recurrir a fuerzas que alcancen hasta el septimo atomo por lo menos. Cada vez que el modelo se ha ampliado para tomar en consideracion fuerzas debidas al grupo siguiente de atomos vecinos, los valores de las constantes de fuerzas determinadas anteriormente han cambiado de modo apreciable. Por tanto, los valores obtenidos en definitiva son de significacion dudosa. (author)
