Mechanisms of high T/sub c/ superconductivity in low dimensional materials
Description
In light of the discovery of new high T/sub c/ superconductors, the question arises of what makes this class of materials unique. This paper discusses how these materials have a layered structure and, hence, the problem of the mechanisms of superconductivity in these materials is connected with the analysis of the properties of 2D electron gas. Low dimensionality along with the existence of a sub-group of electrons (or holes) with a high density of states (DOS) lead to the appearance of strong electron-phonon interaction (EPI) and to a specific non-phonon interaction, namely, 2D plasmon exchange. These factors are the major mechanisms of high T/sub c/ superconductivity
