Extraction of tetravalent berkelium with primary alkylamines from sulfuric acid solutions

Description

Extraction of tetravalent berkelium, Bk(IV), with decylamine from sulfuric acid solutions and the effect of acid concentration, oxidant, extractant concentration, and nature of solvent on Bk(IV) distribution coefficients were studied. It was shown that Bk(IV) can be extracted quantitatively with decylamine in chloroform from 0.05-0.9 M H2SO4 solutions. The mechanisms of Bk(IV) extraction with decylamine was studied. It was proved that Bk(IV) sulfate can be extracted with primary amines as a disolvate. The potential for extraction recovery and purification of Bk(IV) from trivalent transplutonium, rare-earth, and some fission elements was shown
