1920-1995 and beyond: trending downwards
Description
The article shows how since 1980 the average size of new power plants built in the USA has fallen dramatically: the large nuclear and coal plants of the 1970s and 1980s are now being replaced by other technologies such as smaller gas turbines. The study covers the period 1920 to 1995 and a diagram shows the average size of power plants built according to 5-year periods. In future, many power plants will be manufactured rather than built and the key word will be decentralisation: many customers will be small companies or even individuals. The technology, market restructuring and economic imperatives are discussed
