Effect of Danhong injection on plasma resistin and leptin concentrations in the patients with acute cerebral infarction

Description

Objective: To investigate the effect of Danhong injection on plasma resistin and leptin concentrations in the patients with acute cerebral infarction and discuss its mechanism. Methods: 80 patients with cerebral infarction were divided to control group and treatment group. Each group had 40 cases respectively. Control group received ordinary therapy, and treatment group received ordinary therapy and Danhong injection. Plasma samples were obtained on admission and at days 1, 2, 3, 7, and 14 after cerebral infarction in the patients. Plasma resistin and leptin concentrations were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Results: Pre- treatment, the difference of National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale scores between treatment group and control group was not significant (P > 0.05). Posttreatment, National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale scores in treatment group were significantly lower than those in control group (P < 0.05). Upon admission, plasma resistin and leptin concentrations in treatment group were not prominently lower than those in control group (both P > 0.05). However, at days 1, 2, 3, 7, and 14 after cerebral infarction, plasma resistin and leptin concentration in treatment group were obviously lower than those in control group (all P < 0.05). Conclusion: Danhong injection could inhibit inflammatory reaction, and further improve neurological function after cerebral infarction. (authors)
