The detection of formaldehyde in M31

Description

The 6-cm line of formaldehyde has been detected in absorption at a point on the major axis of M31, using the Jodrell Bank Mk II radio telescope. The absorption is thought to be against the microwave background radiation. The implied surface density of formaldehyde is similar to the peak value in our Galaxy. (author)
