Description

A realistic string model is constructed by compactifying the E8xE'8 heterotic strings via a manifold T22/G. The theory is modular invariant and tachyon free. In the low-energy limit there are three families of light fermions with exactly the same quantum numbers as in the standard SU(3)xSU(2)xU(1) model. They couple to gravity and gauge fields with the gauge symmetry SU(3)FxSU(3)CxSU(2)LxSU(2)RxU(1)2xSU(4)'xSU(3)'xSU(2)'xU(1)'2. The SU(4)' group can play the role of the technicolor group to break the SU(3)FxSU(2)RxSU(2)LxU(1)2 symmetry and generate fermion masses. (orig.)
