The French radiotherapy vigilance system: state of play, prospects for development and role of the Public Health Inspector
Description
Following recent radiotherapy accidents in Epinal and Toulouse, the Health Ministry launched in 2007 a vast plan for the quality and safety of radiotherapy practices and installations, the establishment of a radiotherapy vigilance system, strengthening of human resources and training, information and communication. This work takes stock of the French radiotherapy vigilance system currently being formalized, and which consists of equipment-vigilance, vigilance in the field of radiation protection, and soon the experimentation of the declaration of serious adverse events related to care. This inventory is carried out from the point of view of the medical inspector of public health and underlines his position and his intervention in the system. Weak points in the system are identified and some areas for improvement are proposed
Abstract (French)
Suite aux accidents recents de radiotherapie a Epinal et a Toulouse, le ministere charge de la sante a lance en 2007 un vaste plan de qualite et securite des pratiques et des installations de radiotherapie, de mise en place d'un systeme de vigilances en radiotherapie, de renforcement des ressources humaines et de la formation, d'information et de communication. Ce travail realise l'etat des lieux du systeme de vigilance en radiotherapie francais actuellement en cours de formalisation, et qui se compose de la materio-vigilance, de la vigilance dans le domaine de la radioprotection, et bientot de l'experimentation de la declaration des evenements indesirables graves lies aux soins. Cet etat des lieux est realise du point de vue du medecin inspecteur de sante publique et souligne sa position et son intervention dans le systeme. Des points faibles du systeme sont reperes et il est propose quelques pistes d'ameliorationFiles
