Extraction of californium by di-(2-ethylhexyl)phosphoric acid from nitric acid solutions
Creators
Description
The extraction of californium in the nitric acid-D2EHPA-diluent system was studied. It was shown that the mechanism of the process is dependent on the concentration of nitric acid: from weakly acid solutions (<1 M), californium is extracted by an ion exchange mechanism with the formation of a complex of type CfA3·HA, while from concentrated solutions (>10 M) there is a transition in the form of solvates Cf(NO3)3·HA and Cf(NO3)3·2HA (HA is the D2EHPA monomer). The polarity of the solvent (n-decane, octyl alcohol, and their mixtures were used) does not influence the extraction mechanism of californium
