Determination of x in Hg1-xZnxTe single crystals by the temperature coefficient of the energy gap

Description
The determination of chemical composition in Hg1-xZnxTe single crystals based on the temperature coefficient of the energy gap dEg/dT as a linear function of x is presented. A tungsten-iodine lamp was employed as source of near infrared radiation for transmission measurements. The composition dependent dEg/dT of Hg1-xZnxTe is found to be dEg/dT = -1.03x10-3x + 5.00x10-4 (eV/K) with the maximum deviation of Δx ∼ 0.04
