Parametric study of vibration of thin plates with varying aspect ratio

  • 1. NWFP Univ. of Engineering and Technology, Peshawar (Pakistan). Dept. of Mechanical Engineering

Description

Parametric analysis of plate vibrations studies using varying aspects ratio plates was conducted. The effect of aspect ratio on the difference between plate element idealization and beam element idealization was explored. Aspect ratio varying from 0.5 to 5 with end-conditions clamped-clamped, clamped-free and pin-pin have been considered for the present study. Natural frequencies and mode shapes were estimated using beam element idealization. A computer program VMECAS (velaso metallic and elastic coupling analysis of structures) was used. Whereas, a finite element analysis program, SAP90 (structural analysis program 90) was used for the estimation of natural frequencies and mode shapes based on plate element idealization. The material selected for the parametric study was Aluminum. Finally both experimental and theoretical results were compared to establish the error levels. (author)
