Development of 5 T radiation-resistive pulse magnets

Description

The construction and manufacturing method of pulsed dipole magnets with the 5T field are described. Oxidized aluminium and tantalum foils and asbestos cement plates are used as insulators. In this construction the current-carrying buses are rigidly fixed directly on iron of the magnetic core, and the insulators are carried from the bus surface to the magnet periphery. The first magnet of the 10 cm length (of the 1.25x2.5 cm aperture) is developed for separation of the initial proton beam at the 80 GeV/c momentum and the antiproton beam at the 4.5 GeV/c momentum in the FNAL antiproton target facility. The second magnet of the 60 cm length (of the 2x4 cm aperture) is developed for bending the π-meson beam at 66 GeV/c by 150 mrad and extraction from the IHEP neutron target facility. The results of tests on the short magnet sample and insulators are presented
