Integral Benchmark experiments with 14 MeV neutrons to test the nuclear data of vanadium

Description

In an ISTC project, a set of experimental and computational studies are carried out to test the nuclear data of vanadium, which is considered a candidate low-activation structural material for fusion reactors. The neutron and gamma-ray leakage spectra from three vanadium spheres with diameters of 10, 24 and 34 cm with a 14 MeV neutron source in the centre are measured. All spheres have an identical central channel geometry. The neutron spectra are measured using scintillation detectors and a gas proportional counter. The gamma-ray spectra are measured using an NaI(Tl) crystal. The experiments are analysed using the new evaluated nuclear data files for vanadium created within the framework of the project. The experimental results are compared with calculations using different versions of vanadium nuclear data. (author)
