Immobilization of cesium and strontium fixed on silica gel into mineral-like matrices under SHS conditions

Description
Preparation of analogs of pollucite and sphene minerals for immobilization of cesium and strontium radionuclides, respectively, fixed on silica gel was studied using model systems in the mode of metallothermal self-propagating high-temperature synthesis (SHS). Optimal conditions for SHS were determined and phase composition of the reaction products was studied. During pollucite synthesis Al and Fe2O3 serve as energy-forming components, during sphene synthesis - Ti and MoO3. The synthesized analogs of the minerals feature high hardness and chemical resistance. It is shown that no loss of cesium due to evaporation actually occurs
Abstract (Russian)
Исследовано на модельных системах получение в режиме металлотермического самораспространяющегося высокотемпературного синтеза (СВС) аналогов минералов поллуцита и сфена для иммобилизации соответственно радионуклидов цезия и стронция, фиксированных на силикагеле. Определены оптимальные условия проведения СВС и изучен фазовый состав продуктов реакции. При синтезе поллуцита энергообразующими компонентами служат Al и Fe2O3, при синтезе сфена - Tl и MoO3. Синтезированные аналоги минералов отличаются высокой твердостью и химической устойчивостью. Показано, что потеря цезия в результате испарения практически не происходитAdditional details
