A new beam injection method for a proton accumulator ring

Description
A new injection method for a proton accumulator ring is proposed. This injection system is composed of a neutralizer and an ionizer in which wiggler magnetic fields are used as one of charge-exchange method, respectively. The former is composed of focusing magnets and wiggler ones which are placed at the beam transport-line outside of the accumulator ring, and neutralizes H-beam into H0 one. The latter is composed of wiggler magnets and optical resonators which are placed along the linear part in the accumulator ring, and can ionize H0 beam into H+ one. Both devices can effectively exchange the charge of the injected beam with the Lorentz electric field generated by the interaction between the relativistic velocity of H- or H0 beam and the wiggler magnetic field. For the ionization of the H0 beam, the doppler effect and the optical resonant absorption of the laser light can increase substantially the efficiency of ionization process. The laser light of about 500 nm and less than 1kW can make it possible. As there are not any effects on the trajectory of the ring-rotating proton beam by bump magnets nor any beam scattering by the foil as the usual charge-exchange devices, this method will be very useful to reduce the beam spill and radiative productions as the injection part of the proton accumulator ring.
