Multielemental pixe analysis of the aerosols and high sensitivity measurements of the SO/sub 2/ levels in the city of Venice

Description

The average and maximum concentrations for 18 elements (with Z ≥ 14) observed in the aerosols, are given. The most striking feature is the dominance of sulphur. The levels of SO/sub 2/ are also given. We consider the ratio R = S/[S+S'], where S is the molar concentration of sulphur contained in the aerosols and S' the molar concentration of SO/sub 2/ in air; R is correlated both with the temperature and the absolute humidity. Most (80%) of the values of R are found between 0.10 and 0.40, but a value as high 0.94 is also found
