Description
As part of President Obama's 'All-of-the-Above Clean Energy Strategy,' nuclear energy is expected to play an essential role in the energy mix to meet climate change goals. Dr. Kelly will discuss ongoing advanced nuclear technologies research in the United States as well as globally to meet these climate change goals. The U.S. Department of Energy believes Small Modular Reactors hold many desirable attributes and the markets look promising. Demonstration of this technology over the next decade can lead to the next generation of safe, reliable, and clean nuclear energy. The talk will detail the progress of the licensing technical support program and how SMRs have the potential to be game changers. The talk will also discuss the progress of the Generation IV International Forum research and development program and the prospects for demonstrating Generation IV reactor systems in the coming decade by members of the Forum.
