Equilibrium of vanadium with oxygen in liquid iron

Description

The circulation method was employed to study the equilibrium of the melt FeO and Fe-O-V with the gas phase H2O-H2-Ar in the range of temperatures 1550-1700 deg C. The best agreement of the results was noted with other published data. Determined Was the mutual effect of vanadium and oxygen upon their activity coefficients in molten iron. The temperature dependences of the equilibrium constant of the vanadium oxidation reaction on the range of vanadium concentrations of 0.026-3.71% for the three forms of its preferable existence in the oxide phases FeV2O4, V2O3 and V2O2(VO) were determined. Calculated were the deoxidation curves for 1600, 1650 and 1700 deg C and determined were the concentrations of vanadium correlating with the minimum of the solubility of oxygen in the melt (1.55 % at 1600 deg C, 2.35 % at 1650 deg C and 2.65 % at 1700 deg C). More precise data were obtained on the boundaries of the preferable existence of vanadium oxides
