Description

Diseases related to bone tissue for example; osteoporosis was diagnosed in the advanced stages of the disease. The use of microtomography technology (μTC), allows visualizing the image of the object of study with better quality, however, adjustments of some parameters are necessary, as to the energy of the used source and density of the analyzed material. The use of physical filters is necessary to reduce low energy photons, which interfere with image quality, and the proper choice of these filters is an important step in the acquisition of images, as they interfere in the resolution, generating impact in the interpretation and visualization of details. Thus, in order to analyze the influence of resolution on the bone images were obtained for images of μTC of the bone of the wistar rat femur. In the first moment, the sample was imaged without physical filter; and in the second moment, was used aluminum filter (Al) of 0.5 mm. Influence on the distribution of radiodensity was verified due to the thickness of the filter, with histogram shift to the right. This is due to the reduction of low energy photons, which can not be detected after interaction with the sample, producing regions of low radiodensity in the images, so-called beam hardening artifacts. Therefore, the use of the filter was shown to be efficient in reducing the low energy beams and consequently useful for improving the quality of tomographic images, reducing artifacts. (author)
