Inversion of the sign of radiation-plastic effect in C60 single crystals at a sc-fcc phase transition

Description
It is established that reversible change in the C60 monocrystal microhardness, caused by the low-dose beta-radiation, leads to the change in the sign in the vicinity of the phase transition at Tc = 250-260 K. The radiation strengthening is observed by T < Tc and correspondingly the radiation weakening - by T > Tc. The kinetic characteristics of the processes of the beta-stimulated change in the C60 microhardness as well as its subsequent reduction to the initial state are studied within the temperature range of 170 up to 350 K. It is determined that both processes are of the thermoactivation character. The activation energies are identified and their difference for the sc- and fcc-lattices is indicated
Abstract (Russian)
Обнаружено, что обратимое изменение микротвердости монокристалла С60, вызванное малодозовым бета-облучением, меняет знак в окрестности фазового перехода при Tc = 250-260 K. При T < Tc наблюдается радиационное упрочнение, при T > Tc - разупрочнение. В интервале температур от 170 до 350 К исследованы кинетические характеристики процессов бета-стимулированного изменения микротвердости С60, а также ее последующего восстановления к исходному значению. Установлено, что оба процесса имеют термоактивационный характер. Определены энергии активации и показано их различие для sc- и fcc-решетокAdditional details
