An arcsec radio jet in NGC 1275 (Perseus A)

Description
We present 73-cm radio continuum observations of NGC 1275 with an angular resolution of 1.2 arcsec. The observations show an unresolved core together with two weaker knots which we interpret as a radio jet in position angle approx. 1600. This jet may be associated with an optical filament in PA 1720 which aligns precisely with the 2.8-cm VLBI jet and shows an unusually high velocity-gradient. We suggest that this filament could be formed by the cooling of gas entrained into a beam in PA 1720. If this hypothesis is correct, then the radio knots are displaced 2 -> 3 arcsec (approx. 1 kpc) from the axis of the beam. (author)
