Glueballs and hadron spectroscopy

Description

Identifying glueballs is intimately intertwined with the study of meson spectroscopy. In this brief review, recent experimental results are compared with QCD inspired predictions for the masses of the 0-+, 1+-, 1--, 1++ mesons. They agree remarkably well. For the 0-+ and 1++ systems, these agreements lead to the possibility of identifying additional states as candidates for exotica. A major mystery is why the 2++ g/sub T/ states are not seen in J/psi→γphiphi, in view of the fact that the OZI-violating mechanism should be a good way to produce glueballs
