Description

SNC-Lavalin Nuclear is the OEM for CANDU technology that has been the foundation of the Canadian Nuclear industry for more than half a century. This technology has evolved in the designs that have been deployed on four continents. That development is continuing in designs proposed for projects in Argentina, China and elsewhere. Here at home, the technology is also thriving, with billions of dollars being invested in CANDU technology as we work on extending the lives of ten units in Ontario as well as at our overseas stations. This has resulted robust nuclear industry in Canada that fosters new, productive and innovative relationships among the major players. This strong nuclear community contributes to the potential for us to participate in the development of other technologies like SMRs. Canada as a country is also an important environment for these developing technologies. We have potential markets for grid-scale application, industrial and micro-grid applications in remote Northern communities. The CNSC has also established a Vendor Design Review process that allows new technologies to be tested against current regulatory expectations that align with international standards. SNC-Lavalin is working with others to leverage its capabilities as a reactor OEM that covers the full suite of NPP design requirements, nuclear project development capabilities along with the experience with all three stages of the Canadian Vendor Design Review process. Together, with existing CANDU technology and the SMR technologies that are being developed for, in and with the country. SNC-Lavalin Nuclear will help nuclear to maintain its role as an important contributor to Canada and the world.
