Concept of a remotely handled filter cell for reprocessing plants including development and testing of the corresponding filters and remote handling devices

  • 1. Kernforschungszentrum Karlsruhe (Germany, F.R.)

Description

Under the Reprocessing and Waste Treatment Project (PWA) a concept for dissolver offgas cleaning has been worked out at the Karlsruhe Nuclear Research Center. After the required filter and remotely operable systems had been developed and provided, they were subjected to cold testing in the PASSAT filter cell. Work on this concept included the design of the filter cell as well as the development of the filters required to retain iodine, wet and dry aerosols, and the development of the remotely handled systems. The paper describes the concept of the filter cell and reports about experience accumulated with some of the devices installed in the cell
