Description
CODAC (Control, Data Access and Communication) is the central control system responsible for operating the ITER device. CODAC interfaces 165 Plant Systems. CODAC is responsible for coordinating and orchestrating the operation of these Plant Systems. CODAC is developed by ITER International Organization (IO), while Plant Systems are developed by the seven ITER parties (China, Europe, India, Japan, Korea, Russia and United States). The software architecture for CODAC will be composed of a set of core systems that implement the core functions, such as communication, configuration management, alarms handling, data storage, error reporting and HMI. The Plant System Host (PSH) and Mini-CODAC are important core systems in the current phase of the project. The role of PSH is to interface any plant-system into the ITER CODAC infrastructure. The role of Mini-CODAC is to replace the central systems before integration, for the development and factory tests phases. Prototype design and survey activities launched in 2008 have lead to the first technology decisions for the core systems. One of them is to use EPICS as the baseline for the software environment. The current activities are now aiming at building the first version of the core software with the main objective of providing the Plant System IC suppliers with PSH and Mini-CODAC. It will be executed in successive phases, with delivery of preliminary systems in 2010 and of stable ones for the acceptance tests of the first Plant Systems in 2012. These activities are executed with contributions from the ITER parties and from the industry. Having decided to use open source software for ITER CODAC, it is also foreseen that some tasks will be executed in a collaborative way with other labs. In this paper, we report on the current status of these activities and on our plans. This document is composed of an abstract followed by the presentation slides. (authors)
