Effect of Gamma Irradiation on Chili Mutation

Full text: 'Huarue Huaysai' chili seeds were irradiated with 0, 400 and 600 grays of gamma ray. Irradiated seeds were planted and the selection was carried out for 6 generations. In the second crop, two mutated chili plants were identified; one was sterile with rough and wavy leaves, while the other was shrubby with thick and rigid leaves. In the third crop, the latter mutant line with thick leaves was found to exhibit resistance to piercing-sucking insects. Fruit yield and fruit quality of this line were similar to the parental variety. In the sixth generation, a plant with variegated leaf color was observed
