Korea Multi-Purpose Accelerator Complex Management. Accelerator Operation
Description
Proton accelerator operation project aims to provide users with particle beams required for the development of future source and industrial technology through stable operation of the 100 MeV proton accelerator. Its R&D is carried out for maximization of operation efficiency through optimization of operating parameters of the accelerator and beamlines, improvement of reliability through maintenance, securing operation skills and operator training, and expansion of the accelerator. In this project, the proton accelerator was operated to satisfy the target operation time per year with more than 90 % of operation rate. To achieve this, a smart management system for device history and a machine protection/personal safety system were constructed and operated. To improve the performance of the accelerator, we have supplemented the beam diagnostic system and have developed test benches for various ion sources and high power RF system. To meet expanded users' demand, we have expanded isotope beamline, low-flux beamline and test beamline for proton beam tests, and have developed a 1 MV electrostatic accelerator and a 1 MeV/n RFQ based accelerator. To widen the application field of proton beams, research has been carried out to the utilization of secondary particle beams such as pulsed neutron and lithium ion beams. To support this, we perform basic research on short pulsed ion source, target ion source and high energy accelerator technologies. From the proton accelerator operation, the outcome of basic research and development, and accelerator application technology will build industrial and medical application basis. It will contribute to the creation of new industry, improvement of national welfare and growth of national quality.
