Adhesion interaction of titanium with refractory metals

  • 1. AN Ukrainskoj SSR, Kiev. Inst. Problem Materialovedeniya

Description

Studied is an adhesion interaction of titanium with molybdenum, zirconium and niobium in the temperature range from 700 to 950 deg C, under pressure of (1 kg/mm2 and at exposures from ''instantaneous'' one to 16 min. in vacuum of 1.10-5 torr. It is stated that the values of adhesion coefficients for α-Ti, Mo and Nb increase linearly with the growth of the exposure time. The temperature dependence of the adhesion coefficients is shown to correlate with the change of high-temperature mechanical characteristics of the metals studied . The conditions are described under which titanium may work in vacuum in pairs with the above metals without adherence
