K+K+ relative momentum correlations in 14.6 A·GeV/c Si+Au central events

Description

We have measured the Bon-Einstein correlation function of 55000 K+ pairs and 115000 π+ pairs in overlapping phase space regions. BNL AGS experiment E859 is a 25 msr single arm magnetic spectrometer with excellent offline particle identification (PID) capability (3 σ π/K separation below 1.8 GeV/c). It has been enhanced with a sophisticated second-level trigger with 40μsec online particle identification capability to increase the data rate for rare events. Although the source spatial-extent information contained in the correlation function has been known for some time, we are just beginning to uncover the wealth of dynamical information that can also be extracted. Multi-dimensional analyses, kinematical cuts and model comparisons are all useful tools for extracting this information. In addition, models can be used to determine the effects of source dynamics on the interpretation of spatial-extent measurements. Using these tools, comparisons between K+ and π+ results will be made
