Problem of radon safety in Kazakhstan

  • 1. NPP TOO 'Solo Ltd', Almaty (Kazakhstan)

Description

In the paper the problem of radon safety in Kazakhstan is illuminated. A number of the radon hazardous areas with high radiation loads on population is listed. It is concluded, that for a complete study and solution of this problem it is necessary to develop the Comprehensive Republican Programme on reducing of irradiation level on population from natural ionizing radiation sources, and within the frameworks of this programme to fulfill the following measures: - Zoning of Kazakhstan territory by radon-hazard, and drawing up of radioecological maps; - Study of radon emanation from soils, and sediment ores in radon-hazardous areas, and implementation of forecast methodic for radon influx in buildings; - Conducting of a wide-scale examination of inhabited areas for potentially hazardous regions of Kazakhstan, and occupied personnel of uranium and non-uranium mines. Determine the population irradiation rates and the reveal the risk groups; Implementation of forecasting methods for irradiation consequences and its prophylaxis
