Studies on the extraction of americium from nitric acid medium by dihexyl-N, N-diethyl carbomyl methylene phosphonate (Paper No. AL-24)

  • 1. Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Bombay (India). Fuel Chemistry Div.

Description

The purification procedures to remove acidic impurities from dihexyl-N, N-diethyl carbomyl methylene phosphonate is described. This compound is used as an extractant for trivalent actinides from moderately concentrated nitric acid solution which enables partitioning of trivalent actindes from high level radioactive wastes. The purity of the extractant was confirmed by distribution studies of americium using 241Am as a tracer. (M.G.B.). 5 refs., 1 tab., 1 fig
