Investigations on the influence of combustion products on the retention of radioiodine by activated carbons
Description
Investigations were performed on the influence of gaseous combustion products from relevant materials used in nuclear power plants on the retention of methyl iodide (CH3131I) by commercial impregnated activated carbons. It is concluded that with iodine filters of large bed depths (residence time: ≥ 0.5 s), when containing a usually employed impregnated activated carbon, a sufficiently high retention of radioiodine should be achievable even with a high challenge of gaseous combustion products. Es wurden Untersuchungen zum Einfluss von gasfoermigen Brandprodukten aus relevanten, in Kernkraftwerken verwendeten Materialien auf die Abscheidung von Methyliodid (CH3131I) an kommerziellen impraegnierten Aktivkohlen durchgefuehrt. Die Ergebnisse zeigen, dass mit Iodfiltern grosser Bettiefe (Verweilzeit: ≥ 0,5 s) bei Einsatz der ueblicherweise verwendeten impraegnierten Aktivkohlen eine ausreichend hohe Rueckhaltung von Radioiod erreicht wird. Dies gilt auch bei starker Beaufschlagung mit gasfoermigen Brandprodukten. (orig.)
